  • Professor, Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, Washington State University.
  • Director, Consortium for the Study of Communication and Decision Making, 2002-present.
  • Research focus:
    • Media literacy, family communication and health campaigns. She has advised a number of organizations nationwide as well as the federal government on the development and evaluation of media literacy curricula.
    • Media in decision making and social development.  In particular, she studies the interplay of media and parental influences in children's decisions about health, politics and social reality.
    • Political decision making and disaffection among adults.
  • Recipient of the 2001 Krieghbaum Under-40 Award from the  Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Public Relations Educator of the year, 2004, Greater Spokane Area Public Relations Association. Recipient of the 2009 Samuel H. Smith Leadership Award from Washington State University. Many of her publications and projects include student as coauthors and collaborators.
  • B.A. in Journalism with an emphasis in the arts from the  George Washington University, Washington D.C., and her masters and doctoral degrees, in communication research, from Stanford University. She teaches public relations management and campaign design, health communication and social development, and other courses in communication theory and communication science.
