M. A. Application Process
Submit formal application forms to the WSU Graduate School. These forms are automatically sent to you when you inquire about our graduate program. These forms can also be obtained electronically from the Graduate School web site.
Arrange to have at least three people submit letters of recommendation on your behalf. These letters may be submitted by anyone, but we are primarily interested in references that can comment on your academic ability. Letters need to be sent directly to the Graduate School by the writer (see address at the bottom of this section).
You must have one sets of official transcripts sent directly from each institution you have previously attended. To the WSU Graduate School (see addresses at the bottom of page).
NOTE: If you are currently attending WSU, you do not need to request transcripts from this university.
Submit Verbal, Quantitative and Analytic scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). These should be sent to the address below. Information about the GRE can normally be obtained on most college campuses or directly from Educational Testing Services at:

Please allow 6 weeks from the date that your test was taken for the scores to arrive at Washington State University.
Submit a 500-word statement of purpose explaining your reasons for pursuing a master's degree, your area(s) of interest, and why the Murrow College's graduate program is particularly well-suited to your scholarly goals and objectives. This should be submitted to the College of Communication.
Students from countries where English is not the native language must submit their Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores.

- Paper-based score minimum: 580
- Computer-based score minimum: 237
- Internet-based score minimum: 93
An admission packet is sent to you after the Office of Admissions receives your pre-application form. The admission packet contains application forms, a financial certificate, and a TOEFL form. Information about the TOEFL can be obtained by contacting

M. A. Application Deadlines
Students are admitted to the M. A. program at the start of the fall semester. M. A. applications must be submitted to the Graduate School and to the College of Communication by January 10th for Fall admission.
