The Canadian Consulate General Seattle invites university students who wish to experience working for a foreign government in the United States to apply for the 2009 Intern Programme. These positions are non-paid.
Internships are for a minimum of 8-10 weeks and 9 hours per week. Interns are normally placed in the Political, Economic Relations & Public Affairs Section and work on various projects supporting 3 Officers (media, cultural, political, natural resources, academic, public affairs, economic) and PERPA Assistant . Students must be computer / database proficient.
Interested students should apply no less than 90 days prior to their anticipated start-date (beginning of semester, quarter, term) as those selected must undergo a Government of Canada background / security check. Interns are provided an email account with Foreign Affairs Canada.

For Communication Studies majors: Whitman County Humane Society is looking for an organized, creative person to work under the supervision of the administrative manager to promote awareness and increase community support for its mission. Minimum qualifications include:

v Create a program to recruit, train, and schedule volunteers
v Research and write grant proposals
v Perform website maintenance
v Other duties as directed

World Affairs Council

Description: Internships available, quarterly, unpaid, for up to 12 internationally-minded students in the Puget Sound Community.
Interns commit 12-15 hours per week during office business hours, which are 9am-5pm Monday through Friday for 10-12 weeks (3 - 6 months). Interns gain valuable hands on skills and perform basic office tasks plus special projects, which vary depending on the department.
The World Affairs Council creates events and forums for discussion on international issues in the Puget Sound region. The Council is a membership-based, non-partisan organization founded in 1951. It arranges social and professional meetings for more than 1,200 visiting professionals from more than 120 nations. In addition, the Council sponsors more than 80 community programs each year and promotes international education in local classrooms.
In the past, special projects have included accompanying high-level international delegates to their meetings in Seattle, writing grants, and co-creating international curriculum for local schools. The World Affairs Council has six departments: Administration, Development, Membership, International Visitor Program, Community Program, and Global Classroom. The Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) (www.pnwer.org) is a public/private partnership composed of legislators, governments, and businesses in the Northwest states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington and the Western Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon Territory.
PNWER promotes greater regional cooperation by governments and business to enhance the region's global competitiveness, while striving to maintain or improve its environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in governmental policy-making, Canadian-U.S. relations, and public/private sector cooperation. As an intern, the student will: gain hands on experience working in a fast-pace professional environment and will learn the inner workings of a growing organization; improve/gain networking skills through interacting with PNWER members, board members and participating in conference calls; develop research experience and expand their knowledge on a vast array of issues that impact the economy of the Pacific Northwest region.
Applicants should have a basic understanding of governmental structures, political relations, and current issues. Candidates must be highly motivated, detail oriented and be able to work effectively within a collaborative team structure. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher and other software applications is helpful.
Internship position is part-time, 10-15 hours per week
Open to undergraduates that have completed at least 45 credits
Duration: at least 1 quarter/semester; can be extended upon review
