Multimedia Journalism Internship, “Our Northwest”
Educational and Public Media at WSU
Pullman

Work with an online project called “Our Northwest” to aggregate and produce stories/content on the subjects of water conservation and sustainable/organic agriculture. Learn the public radio demographic and hone reporting skills in a professional, multi-media environment.

Successful intern candidates will work collaboratively with team leader and cohorts on a number of projects during the semester. Project assignments will depend on skill level and career ambitions of applicants.

Qualifications:

College of Comm student
Public radio listener preferred
Excellent communication/reporting skills, both written and verbal
Web design and/or ad layout design knowledge helpful

Summary:
Linden Lab is seeking an enthusiastic intern to join our team. The ideal candidate for this paid editorial assistant position should be a strong writer or blogger who is comfortable with Web publishing tools and technologies. We’re looking for someone to help support our editorial and marketing teams with content development for various Web sites related to the popular 3D virtual world Second Life.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Creates and edits text and image content for Secondlife.com and Secondlifegrid.net
  • Reviews user content submissions for approval and publishing to Web
  • Communicates with Second Life users in support of various editorial initiatives
  • Provides assistance with Lindenlab.com and preparation of PR/marketing materials

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated writing for online blogs and/or publications. You will need to write persuasive, clear content in a variety of contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online virtual worlds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Web-based publishing tools and technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience in the Second Life community a significant plus.


Requirements:

  • College-level writing experience in print, online publication, customer or client-facing communication.
  • Samples of online editorial content development (e.g. blogs, web videos, etc.).
  • Current enrollment in a university journalism or public relations program.

Students have the opportunity to cover news, sports, campus culture, traditions, music, politics, campus events, etc. The site www.palestra.net features this video content from reporters across the country.

The Palestra.net internship offers students the opportunity to represent their campus as their school's campus reporter. Although most of our interns are journalism and communication majors, students of all majors can apply. These are PAID internships allowing students to get real-world experience with new media in the form of on-line videos.

 Palestra.net is content partners with Fox News Channel and Fox Business Channel, and cultivating a relationship with Fox Sports Interactive. This unique content partnership allows the students' work to potentially be featured on these Fox outlets.

SEATTLE BUSINESS MONTHLY 
Editorial Internship Program

The region’s premier business magazine is seeking high-quality interns who are looking for hands-on experience in the publishing field. This is an unpaid internship that requires between 15 and 20 hours per week in our office in downtown Seattle, during business hours. Internships last for six months. Work schedules are flexible and you can earn credits for participating. The application deadlines are as follows:
 

  • Immediate openings are available.
  • Internship begins in May, 2008
  • Fall 2008 Internship openings also exist

The magazine’s interns work closely with top editors in an environment that is both creative and collaborative. As an intern, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for researching, writing and editing this premier monthly business publication. Enduring enthusiasm, curiosity and a love of the written word are essential prerequisites for the position. (Typing ability is a must). You will be called upon regularly to use your excellent verbal communication skills and to demonstrate a helpful attitude. Attention to detail will come in handy. No previous experience is necessary.

Responsibilities
Interns help us bring up-and-coming trends home to the readers. Observing life in the city and on the street, interns are the eyes, ears and feet of the magazine. You will work on a wide range of projects, from the glamorous to the grind. You will become familiar with the varied pace of a magazine's production schedule. No two internships are the same. To some extent, you will be given responsibilities based on your strengths and your initiative. Projects might include the following: proofreading articles, fact-checking stories, writing sidebars, researching writing assignments, conducting interviews and investigations, attending concerts and parties, responding to queries and mailing returns.
