Internship Qualifications and Responsibilities:
DGSS has several internship positions available for students with strong backgrounds in communication, marketing and/or organizational consulting. Qualified interns will participate in promotion, organization and daily operation of DGSS programs and in the performance of projects and activities relating to them, while working with the Director, Associate Director and others at DGSS. Agency Description:
Washington State University’s Division of Governmental Studies and Services (DGSS) is an outreach unit jointly sponsored by WSU Extension and the College of Liberal Arts. DGSS is physically located in the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice Program in Pullman, but draws upon faculty, staff and students from across the University. DGSS also has satellite offices in Olympia and Spokane. DGSS operates several programs, including the Washington State Institute for Criminal Justice (WSICJ), the Western Regional Institute for Community Oriented Public Safety (WRICOPS), and the Natural Resources Leadership Academy (NRLA). DGSS is the home of the Washington Digital Inclusion project, and DGSS is also active in the national and Washington Extension Disaster Education Networks and in emergency planning, preparation and recovery.

The Washington, D.C. intern experience is very structured. Interns should expect to work 30 hours a week for 14 weeks. Interns should be interested in government and have clear and concise writing skills, as well as research skills. Internships are unpaid.
Press interns work primarily with the members of the press office. Responsibilities include: preparing press clippings; drafting and distributing press releases, taping, editing and sending radio and television feeds, assisting at press conferences and hearings and performing a variety of administrative tasks including fielding calls from constituents and leading constituent tours of the U.S. Capitol.

American Junior Golf Association

The AJGA is beginning the search for more than 50 interns that will work for us during the spring or summer to help our full-time staff conduct more than 80 golf tournaments and 45 qualifiers across the United States. The AJGA internship requires extensive travel, is difficult and demanding, but at the same time is very rewarding and prepares one for a career in the golf/sports industry. The AJGA is looking for talented and well-rounded applicants to serve as tournament operations and communications interns. Description: The Thirteenth Coast Guard District Office of Auxiliary Forces promotes, trains, funds and recruits 1,000s of citizen volunteers to work side by side with the United States Coast Guard as well as myriad state and local agencies scattered throughout a four state region in the Pacific Northwest.
Congressionally mandated in 1939, the Coast Guard Auxiliary consists of 30,000 members – nearly 2,000 of these civilian heroes live and volunteer in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.
An intern in this office will work directly for the Director of Auxiliary Forces who is the direct representative of the region’s Coast Guard Admiral. The Auxiliary is made up of diverse volunteers from all walks of life.
Daily, this office engages with the community on dynamic issues locally, nationally and internationally. The human interest aspect of volunteers saving lives and property makes marketing the Coast Guard Auxiliary truly unique. The Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) (www.pnwer.org) is a public/private partnership composed of legislators, governments, and businesses in the Northwest states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington and the Western Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon Territory.
PNWER promotes greater regional cooperation by governments and business to enhance the region's global competitiveness, while striving to maintain or improve its environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in governmental policy-making, Canadian-U.S. relations, and public/private sector cooperation. As an intern, the student will: gain hands on experience working in a fast-pace professional environment and will learn the inner workings of a growing organization; improve/gain networking skills through interacting with PNWER members, board members and participating in conference calls; develop research experience and expand their knowledge on a vast array of issues that impact the economy of the Pacific Northwest region.
Applicants should have a basic understanding of governmental structures, political relations, and current issues.
