Successful candidate will gain extensive experience positioning public radio programs to listeners and the general public. Will participate in the focus and content of promotion and/or fundraising campaigns. Duties may include: writing content for on-air production, website content and outreach packages. Also may include work on press releases, brochures and multi-media materials to further the mission and outreach goals of Educational and Public Media. Depending on skills and interests, successful intern candidates will also interact with public broadcasting listeners.

Gain experience  targeting and cultivating existing and potential underwriting clients for KTNW/KWSU public television and Northwest Public Radio. Successful applicants will learn public radio demographics and psychographics, research prospects, develop pitch points, assist with pitches, assist with contracts and other paperwork and help ensure customer satisfaction. The work will include shadowing underwriting representatives, but there is also the potential for working directly with clients.
Duties may include:

Qualifications:

Although most of our interns are journalism and communication majors, students of all majors can apply. The Washington Health Foundation has internship positions in four areas:

PUBLIC AFFAIRS

Time commitment of at least one quarter or semester, minimum of 10-15 hours per week, is required.  Summer internships are negotiable and small stipends are available.

  1. Develop, write and post news releases and feature stories for use in a variety of venues, including print and online media;

Summer-Spring-Fall Internship Program:  The Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation Internship Program was established to develop the next generation of liberty-minded leaders and entrepreneurs. Over the course of the program, Interns engage in key Foundation projects while learning and applying Market-Based Management®. 

The project assignments cover fascinating areas including policy research, leadership and talent development, grassroots education, marketing, and network development. This hands-on experience gives interns the chance to explore the non-profit sector while applying the management philosophy they are learning from the Foundation, and allows them to build a network of like-minded friends and associates. 

Each Intern is assigned a Foundation mentor for the duration of the program. The mentor will guide the Interns through assignments, assist them in learning the management framework and applying it to their non-profit work, and encourage them to become effective entrepreneurs for social change.

 Spring and fall Internships are part-time and flexible, but Interns must be available at least 20 hours each week, including all day on Tuesdays. Summer Interns are also part-time, but Interns work regular schedules, 8:30am-5:30pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Spring, summer, and fall Interns do not work on Thursdays. Spring and fall Interns are paid an hourly rate of $12.00. Summer Interns are paid an hourly rate of $13.00. Metro assistance is available only for summer Interns. Unfortunately, housing is not provided.

DESCRIPTION: Intern to the Promotions Department for STAR 101.5, 570 KVI and KOMO 1000 News Radio Stations. Assist in the daily activities of the promotion department. Must be enrolled in college and receive college credits toward graduation for hours worked.
