If you're receiving this letter, you likely know the major impact that Washington State University professor Glenn Johnson has had on the world of broadcasting, the Edward R. Murrow College of Communications and, quite possibly, your own life.

He's the voice of the Cougars, filling Friel Court and Martin Stadium with enthusiasm, "And that's another Cougar first down!"  He's also the Mayor of Pullman, Washington. And perhaps he gave you, or someone you care about, the chance to turn a WSU communications degree into a dream career.

Glenn Johnson is that special kind of professor; a teacher who generously shares his real-life experiences. At a time when the broadcast industry is going through many changes, Glenn remains a committed mentor to the many students who want careers in broadcast news.

Glenn received the prestigious 2008 Edward L. Bliss Award for Distinguished Broadcast Journalism Education. He's the first educator inducted into the "Silver Circle" of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. At WSU, he serves as the Cable 8 News Director, coordinates broadcast internships, and teaches television and radio news writing, producing, and management classes.

As products of Glenn's teaching and mentoring, we want to acknowledge Glenn's contributions, and so we are working to establish a lasting gift: The Glenn A. Johnson Endowed Professorship.

Our initial goal was to raise $50,000 to help Glenn improve the education experience for his students — whether it's better computers, equipment, trips, or opportunities to connect students to role models. The fund would be endowed in perpetuity so Glenn would be able to use the annual earnings from the fund — about $2,000 per year on the $50,000 raised. We're pleased to announce that KOMO news anchor and WSU alumna Kathi Goertzen, along with new Cougar graduate Megan Angelo and her parents, Craig and Lyn Angelo, have each made lead pledges of $10,000, and we as a group are matching that over 3 years to bring the total to $46,000. We are confident together with your involvement we can now raise our goal to $300,000 and take us on our way for fully funding the Glenn A. Johnson Endowed Professorship.

We're asking you to carefully consider a contribution to the new Glenn A. Johnson Endowed Professorship, so Glenn can continue his trademark brand of teaching and caring for students as he has for 30 years.

Sincerely,

Lynn Espinoza, President, Speak! Communications
