What is virtual journalism?
Virtual journalism refers to the phenomena of news reporting within a 3D online space, such as Second Life or Club Penguin. Real-world news organizations, such as CNN and Sky News, have already opened “in-world” news bureaus that aim to document and report on the emerging economy and activities within virtual worlds.
In addition to these mass news media experimentations, there are also citizen-created news and blog sites that aim to document inner-world developments, activities and communities. Further, in some cases, content creators are even adding streamed video news and entertainment programming to further engage and inform their in-world audiences. Many of these emerging media outlets have amassed a significant following through digital distribution both within and outside the confines of these 3D spaces.
