2-Year Scholarship Program | Strategic Communications
Two-year scholarship | 3.0 GPA required
The Boeing Scholars program provides students with two-year scholarships as well as internship opportunities between their junior and senior years. During their senior year, students from engineering, science and business participate in an interdisciplinary course, collaborating with Boeing scientists and engineers on a real-life aerospace industry project. The program brings disparate groups together, simulating the engineering work environment.
Since the program’s inception, students have worked on many projects for the company, including developing a paint contaminant detection system, looking at ways to recycle carbon fibers that are used in building airplanes and preventing interference in wireless networks on planes. The program was the brainchild of WSU alumnus Scott Carson, who retired as commercial airplanes president and CEO of Boeing in 2009.
- Certified in The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication
- Junior standing in the fall of application year
- 3.0 GPA that must be maintained throughout the scholarship
- Ability to take an entrepreneurship course as early as spring of junior year + two more courses in fall and spring of senior year
- Capacity for team project work and research assignments outside of class time
- Capacity and willingness for limited travel to Boeing headquarters for meetings, tours and presentations
Through a competitive application and interview process, two exceptional students representing strategic communications and journalism tracks were selected as Edward R. Murrow Boeing Scholars.
The Boeing Scholars program is more than a scholarship. The Scholars are assigned to special teams who work on Boeing-assigned projects designed to deliver solutions and business cases that evidence effective multidisciplinary problem solving. Past projects have yielded patentable solutions or solutions that have been implemented by Boeing. Students from The College of Engineering and Architecture, The College of Business, The College of Arts and Sciences, and The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication come together in curriculum and teamwork to execute collaborative projects identified and sponsored by Boeing. $5,300 in scholarships are awarded to exceptional students poised to pursue careers in project management, strategic communications and marketing, business, science, technology, research and engineering. Students are also given an opportunity to experience a professional internship with Boeing during the first summer of the program.
