My research and teaching interests are centered on the interplay between media representations, social psychological constraints, and citizen engagement. My current research focus is on understanding the cognitive and motivational mechanisms that may inhibit or promote public deliberation.
I am also interested in the ways that the Internet and new digital media may facilitate individuals to form attitudes, express opinions, and participate in civic and political processes. My research has been situated in the contexts of both U.S. and China.
